Designing state-of-the-art systems for this landmark development in Calgary.

The landmark building, located in Calgary’s culture and entertainment district, is influenced by the ancestral and historical land of Indigenous Peoples and the culturally significant site that embodies a shared purpose to gather. Beyond the event centre, the 10-acre city block is designed for connection and includes a community rink, outdoor and indoor plaza spaces, multiple restaurants, retail outlets and will provide gathering places and amenities for the 8,000 people who will live in this new downtown neighbourhood.

Designing the security systems for this ambitious project involved both an in-depth understanding of the risks posed to the facility, which LOBO met with the preparation of a detailed Threat Risk Assessment, and the various unique operational functions that the facility will serve. Coupled with the operational requirements was the need to ensure effective security while allowing for the safe movement of large numbers of users accessing the facility at any given time including guests, performers, the press, vendors and staff. LOBO met the challenge by designing highly integrated systems, capable of meeting a large range of requirements, incorporating state-of-the-art technology including advanced weapons detection, video surveillance, access control, panic/duress, and intercommunications, monitored and controlled from the security operations centre.
